The objective of the project was to increase conveyance and provide flood control protection for adjacent properties by widening and deepening an existing ditch, and installing related infrastructure. The ditch was cleaned of vegetation and the muck soils were excavated to target dimensions using long reach trackhoes on crane mats to insure safety to environment and staff. Habitat islands were created from excavated material, and a pump station pad and facility pad were constructed for an alum injection system. In addition, the major culvert under Emeralda Island Road was repaired by installing a 32-inch HCPE slipliner inside the existing 36” culvert, and installing a large concrete inlet box and slide gate on the upstream side of the culvert. A de-watering system was designed, implemented and maintained during the duration of the project.
